Bowen for Companion Animals
Bowen is a series of gentle rolling moves over soft tissue - muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, with frequent pauses to allow the body to absorb the session.
During a session the practitioner applies a carefully orchestrated and specifically located series of gentle movements across the body. The movements are composed of a subtle rolling of connective tissue.
Bowen stimulates a sense of deep relaxation. This deeply relaxed state acts upon the body’s autonomic nervous system creating homeostasis at the cellular level. This frees the animal’s body to find its own natural balance.
During the session the practitioner will apply the movements in a series of patterns. The practitioner removes her hands from the animal between the application of each pattern in the series so as to allow the animal the maximum space to fully achieve the deepest relaxant effects and to avoid interfering with the energetic realignment.
Sessions usually last between half an hour and a full hour. Often no more than two sessions are required to address most conditions. Sessions will generally be scheduled at 7-day intervals.
Certain alternate modalities affecting deep tissue, when used within a week of a Bowen session, will counteract Bowen (e.g., massage, chiropractics.) If you plan to combine Bowen with any other modality, please be sure to discuss an appropriate session schedule with your Bowen practitioner.
It is strongly suggested that the animal refrain from any strenuous exercise on the day of the session but walks are encouraged. On the day following the session light activity is encouraged. In the case of a horse a light, stretching ride is ideal.
